PEACH first ever intellectual post *rock sign*

okayyy the title itself SAYS it all. i meann i'm writing an intellectual post! i'm writing about books!

books!!
the sole purpose that has driven me to write this because wei2 wrote me a birthday post here and got me all hyped up and like a women high on alco, that prompted me to do something out of odinary (for me) - which i'mm gonna writee here and there ( trust me, its all you needa know) about a few amazing books i read and the most conjob book ever which was a pain in the asss for me to read.

gosh, saw those previous post? i'm literally gobsmacked! they're so good! and they know poems!
sadly, this would be the most drunkenn post ever by yours truly.

oh yeah, bookss. let's talk books!

I BET u went to popular and saww this book all the time

first thought.

aiya, she's already famous wat. by all the rights, this book would definitely be a hit lar!

yes. i don't blame your for that, cause it took me 2 months to finally plucked a chord me in to buy that book. and i assure u, its a good read.

its a good read if you're in for

  • a laugh
  • click lit movies like mean girls, brakfast at tifannys! (its nice wtf),13 going to 30!- high 5!
  • admit it, u're a romance freak.- double high 5
  • a lil bit of detective story here and there

and don't read it

  • if u hate chick lits
  • u're a serious-chillless person
  • 70-s fashion means nothing to you
  • you're not into the whole chick lit thingy, thats okay! jodi picolt is awesome too!'

a brief summary- very brief in fact.
a girl, lara, got visited by her dead aunt. freaked out and in denial she think's she'a having some mental disoder/hallucination cause her carreer was tumbling.

her so called bff (bitch...) ditched her and her friend with a PR company to manage.
and she meets SADIE,the hantu in Sadie's funeral.

nice. and it scared the hell outta her. Sadie needs thee necklace back in order to move on so she need's Lara's help to get in. and in between all that detective work and juggling her career and her off and on boyfriend, she met a guy (WOOO.) hot of of course.

and Sadie turned Lara into a twenties girl in the modern days.
U'll be surprised how the story went!

*ends*

there's nothing SPLENDID about this.
in fact most of it was a bore, in my very own opinion as a bimbo- a literate bimbo.

BUT. some parts are ratherr interesting when it comes to the story on
Mariam and Laila's endure their life with no uncertainly what would happen.
it tells the lives of their loved ones being taken away by war or murder or even
suicide.
its not bad if you're interested on how the war happened ( i skipped the whole part)
and on how women are treated with no justice got me raging! its bullshit in fact how those women are treated.

in this story , law were implemented for men's benefit.women are neglected and stuff.
its not a bad read if you pay attention!

my verdict, worth the 40 bucks! but it was a pain in the ass to read through the boring part, seriously.

P/S: IF U LIKE THIS 20-s girl, you'll like this too

(if you wanna know! i can review it for u)

XOXO, readers!

The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger

It would be vital to review this book if I want this blog to be the IN-book review-blog. Besides, Popular is doing this promotion for the month of April anyway. So grab yours today!
Look, I know I should use this cover as the picture;
But to be frank, I love this one more, so what the heck, it's my review anyway:

TITLE: THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE
AUTHOR: AUDREY NIFFENEGGER
GENRE: SCIENTIFIC ROMANCE - FICTION
PUBLISHER:VINTAGE BOOKS (2003)
ISBN: 0-099-46446-2
PAGES: 518

NARRATOR: Alternating from Clare to Henry
POV: First Person POV
SETTING (TIME): Birth of Henry - 2053
SETTING (PLACE): USA

SYNOPSIS
The story is about Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire and how Henry time travels throughout the novel. It started with Clare meeting Henry when they are all grown ups, but chronologically, they met when Clare was still a child while Henry is in his forties.

They fell in love, and get married, have a child (after so many miscarriages), and demise of one of the spouse. Overall it deals with their daily lives, and how they vie for a normal lifestyle which is quite impossible.

***spoilers alert!*** below are analysis of themes, characters etc. heavy spoilers.

CHARACTERS OVERVIEW
Henry DeTamble - Son of singer, Annette Robinson, and violist, Richard DeTamble. He is an only child in the family. Despite being born in a musical background family, he has no talent in music at all. In fact, he majored English Literature in college and he speaks French and German fluently, having constantly quotes from literatures. Chronologically, he is all over the place. He has this chromosome disorder that makes him involuntarily time travels to places and times that he is, somehow, related. He is emotional. His emotions will act as a gravity, pulling Henry towards the time that he strongly attached, emotionally. For example, he time traveled more than 6 times back to the X'mas Eve that his mother died. From there, he saw the accident from every angles, and saw how the younger self time traveled to save himself. He is also organized, despite the irony of incapable of controlling his own 24 hours. He taught his young self how to survive in the future, with all the skills; he saved his wedding, literally, by time traveling back to the wedding. Henry is a responsible person, being someone who can see the future and alter it at his own will, he never did it. except the time he wants to buy a new house for Clare and decided to cheat the lottery.

Clare Abshire - A child of a wealthy and big family, Clare is probably the youngest of the siblings. She was six when she first met Henry. Henry time traveled to the meadow where little Clare was playing alone. She doesn't believe Henry until he vanished in front of her eyes. Throughout her childhood, she is convinced that Henry would be her husband and hence she does not really date back in her schooling years. She is excited to see Henry when he appears but she would get worried , as an adult, whenever Hnery disappeared to meet her younger self. Her whole life centers around Henry, she loves him, even after Henry;s death.

THEMES
Absence of spouse in a relationship
Love transcends time
The law of Cause and Effect
Future is inevitable
Science improves humanity
Genetic diseases and their cures

QUOTES
"Don't you think it's better to be extremely happy for a short while, even if you lose it, than to be just okay for your whole life?"

"There is only one page left to write on. I will fill it with words of only one syllable. I love. I have loved. I will love."

"It’s dark now and I am very tired. I love you, always. Time is nothing."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Is one of our bloggers birthday! she is a self-proclaimed princess (though we will never approve that)! she's a tyrant who works her slaves like dogs , can u imagine ? how horrendous will it be?

Whipping, screaming, yelling at the top of her lungs for us to serve her 24/7. Okay, brush that thought off. Because since is her birthday, we are approving it just for today. she's officially princess-for-a-day.

a random person who probably laughs at anything that tickles her mind which i assume is a very easy task. she can just laugh over an ant walking on a stick. she has a mind of her own lah, and she claimed that is creativity (nobody ever doubts it anyway).

and she's LAZY and tend to drag things ( BIGGEST PROCRASTINATOR EVER!!!) and possess good sense of humor lah which probably is her greatest personality that attracts people from different races and AGES (yea, even uncles wanna date her)

she's 20. so this is probably the first and last post because she wants her age to be remained as a secret after 20.

anyway, happy 20th birthday AMANDA ONG KAR MUN! here's the link to her blog.

seriously, have a good one :)

idunno how to name this.

Some things you ought to know about this blog.

  • We write random things from weather to politics to education.
The thing is, we practice freedom of speech (but more likely the freedom to blog) whatever we want.

We read (but the truth is I don't read much), we write ( not my thing either), we snap (pictures), travel , sleep, EAT (the most essential part of everyone's life). oh and we swear!

i can't think what else to write. but we will make the best out of this blog lah. Is still new, what you expect wor?

So don't set your expectations too high but just keep this in view.

The Road Not Taken - Robert Frost

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. 20

WHAT DO I THINK?
REMARK:: Okay, this is my first post and I thought I ought to pick something easy and yet meaningful. At this stage of my life, if not at this stage of our lives, the road begin to diverge and to split up.

I remember this poem from Form 4. Back then we were all naive students who just don't listen to class and all we did was having fun. I mean, raise your hand if you really DID listen to what the teacher said about this poem?

Besides, everyone learnt this poem before, it would be easy for them to constructively criticize my work I will try not to regurgitate what I still remember from my Form 4 reference book and analyze it based on what i feel.
:: REMARK ENDS

STANZA 1:
Line 1 and 2 are obviously referring to the fact that the author has come to a point where he must pick one of the two journeys ahead of him.
Back then, for me this poem was just, well, a poem. It doesn't mean more than homework or exam. But today I am at the end of main road now, it is time to pick the next journey.

Line 3, 4 and 5 states that the author tries to stand on his heels and sneak a peek of the roads; to decide which one should he pick. However, like any mortals, he lacks the power to foresee the future and hence he can't see clearly where the road "bent in the undergrowth".
Don't we all are in a some sort of dilemma right now? Trying to pick the right pathway. We want to know what is at the end of the road, sadly we will never know what awaits us.

STANZA 2:
Line 6-8 refer to the other road, the other road which looks more "grassy and wanted wear".

Line 9-10 means the author, on second thought, thinks both roads are equally worn by those "travelers" who are precedent of him.
I mean, doesn't this looks familiar? Every possible roads that lay ahead of you right now, no matter how bright-future-guaranteed it is, has been taken by seniors years, if not decades, before us.

STANZA 3:
Line 11-12 refers to both roads are actually still fresh and not extremely exhausted, as no leaves are "trodden black".
Line 13-15 are the turning points of this poem. It changes from shaking and dubious uncertainty to rock-hard and firm certitude to take on the road the author believes would be the best between both. Albeit he knows he will never come back, he believes he is making the right decision.

STANZA 4:
Line 16 and 17 shifts the setting towards "ages and ages hence", somewhere the author would be telling his past with sorrow.
Line 18-20 briefly give the readers an impression of how his years have been, after taking the "less-traveled" road.
The most important line in this poem, in my opinion, is line 20.

And that has made all the difference.

The tone of this line is very neutral, neither positive and negative. The author never tells the readers what difference did it made? Is it a good one? Is it a bad one? He leaves this to the speculations of the readers.
However it should be noted that the SIGH in line 16 doesn't mean the author is being regretful that he took the road less traveled. Instead, the SIGH refers to the road he HAS NOT taken. He ponders what would happen if he has taken the road more people travel. Where would he end up at? Would it be as satisfied as he is now?

Conclusion:
The poem's essence is at the last line. We should not pick the road most people travel, we should not choose the path less traveled by; we should, on the contrary, choose the one that we would feel most contented with. Decades later, when we came to the end of the road, we shall look back and smile with no regrets. We mustn't keep hanging out WHAT IF's after we picked the road.

***This is my first post and I know it is a terrible analysis. It is not professional and very subjective, having added a lot of my personal views. Not to mention I did not cross check the grammars and spellings as I was too fatigued during the time of writing. I will try to improve next time. Thank you. ***

Chapter I: Genesis

Okay, before you started getting a wrong impression on me, let me clarify.

This blog is not for your entertainment, it is not for you to fulfill your curiosity on my personal life. Like the name of this blog, it is for me to record down how I feel about the books I read.

I've always wanted to do this, not just to record down what books I've read, but also to jot down the way I perceive the books. It is going to be amateurish and boring, but it's okay. You still have my other blog what.

I hope that as I analyze more, I can have a better understanding towards English at the same time read as much as I can when I have the time.

The ultimate goal of this blog is to analyze Classics, eg Emma, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice etc etc. I won't read Shakespeare though, it's too hard for me. I shall start with contemporary novels that are easy to analyze.

Please do not laugh at me. Thank you. =]
